Welcome to my favourite time of year. Autumn seriously rocks. I’ve packed away my Maxi’s and boxed my Birkenstocks in favour of woolly jumpers and 100 denier tights. Everything about this beautiful season excites me. Burgundy lipsticks, sparkly dresses, leather boots, hearty casseroles, and the impending thoughts of Christmas Markets turn me into a fuzzy, festive frump!
But before I reach the point of no return, how about a favourites post to wrap up the summer? My blog’s been seriously quiet recently so here’s a roundup of all my favourite beauty goodies from summer to tie things up.
Drum roll please…
Let’s start with skincare. This summer, I’ve been all over The Body Shop. Their Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil is a gorgeous, creamy oil you massage onto dry skin to remove the day in just a few seconds. I use it before my usual Liz Earle routine as part of a double cleanse and it leaves my skin nourished and supple. Lush!
For those early summer mornings, The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet has been a permanent resident on my dressing table. It smells incredible and sinks in like a powder leaving the perfect base for makeup. I know it sounds weird, and it takes some getting used to but the results speak for themselves.
Finally, I purchased La Roche Possay SPF 50+ Fluid for my holiday in early September. Although technically, I’ve not used it all summer, I’ll be wearing it on sunny winter days as it’s ultra-light and sinks in immediately making it perfect for under make-up protection.
A couple of randoms which don’t fit into skincare or make-up are these two beauties. Firstly, the new Jo Malone cologne. Oh em gee. Wood Sage and Sea Salt is the most delicious fragrance I’ve ever owned. It’s peaty, sweet and floral. It’s like nothing I’ve worn before, but I’ll most certainly repurchase when it’s gone. The candle is already on my Christmas list!
Next up is Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. This stuff gives you sexy waves on the days you can’t make it to the beach. It’s great for when blow drying and straightening feels like a chore but you still want volume and texture. It’s a bit pricey, but worth it.
Last but certainly not least is make-up. It was a challenge to pick just a few but I had to narrow it down or write a thesis. First up, Chanel Vitalumière Aqua foundation in 40. Complete with SPF 15, this ultra-light foundation is like a second skin. Buffed onto the face, it’s invisible and leaves a flawless, dewy complexion. Amazing.
Next up is Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Bronze. This domed compact is sleek, and the bronze glides on evenly, giving a sun-kissed look which isn’t glittery. It’s easy to contour with, or sweep on for a quick glow. It’s lasted months and is still going strong. A definite keeper.
Moving swiftly on to cheeks. Charlotte Tilbury’s Beach Stick in Las Salinas is one of my favourite beauty buys this year. It smells phenomenal. Like, unreal. A pink, goldy swivel stick, I used this on the beach every day in Greece to highlight my cheeks with a dewy sheen and to colour my lips. Complete with SPF, it’s a little golden stick of luxury.
Hourglass Arch Brow Scultping Pencil in Dark Brown was one of my biggest splurges in recent months. I mean, 28 bucks for an eyebrow pencil is pretty mental when you think about it, but it’s just the right consistency for a brow groomer. Not too waxy, no reddish tinge, and it has a spooly brush on the end. I do love a spooly! It’s easy to apply and the packaging is sleek. It’s an investment.
Another big splurge was By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection. This cream stick eyeshadow is simply gorgeous. It blends seamlessly with a MAC 217 it’s got some serious staying power, lasting a full nine hour shift and more. It’s shimmery, brown loveliness blends perfectly over the lid, or used as a liner with a smaller brush.
A hit with beauty bloggers across the UK, Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Matte Finish lip colour in Pink Pong and Olé Flamingo have been my lip staples this summer. I love a bold lip, and I love it more when it stays all day and doesn’t smudge or go on my teeth. Pink lipsticks are my weakness and these fit the bill.
Last but not least is my favourite nail polish of the summer and surprisingly, it’s not Essie, it’s L’Oreal Colour Riche in Sassy Pink. One quick coat is enough to trick people into thinking you’ve been at the salon. The bright pink compliments sun kissed skin and it lasts even without a topcoat. No chipping, just gorgeous girly nails. You don’t get much in the bottle but it’s only a few bucks. Go buy some!
Well that’s the end of my summer beauty chapter. It’s time to buy a new scarf and hat set from Accessorize, and paint my nails red.
What have been your summer saviours?
Until next time…
